'Tis the season ... for picnicking!

A favorite childhood memory for my mom and her sisters was cruising over to Overton Park in Memphis with their parents for a picnic. The white tablecloth was starched, the fried chicken still warm, the potato salad chilled and iced tea the perfect way to cool off on a hot summers' day in the South.

A picnic is one of my favorite activities, too, so I keep picnic kit in the trunk of my car so we can enjoy an impromptu park, lake or beach-side picnic on a moment's notice! (I'm serious, if you sneeze in my car you won't find a Kleenex, but you can certainly find a way to entertain yourself if you have a couple of extra hours on a Saturday!) In my kit you'll find:

When the weather starts warming up (and it defintely has here in Atlanta) there's just about nothing I love more than sitting on my porch swing amongst fluffy pillows and a great book with a nice, cold drink. Let's face it, preppy can be really cute when it is done right, and the folks at www.snappy-turtle.com have lots of great apparel, sandals, and accessories to satisfy the prepster in all of us. I stumbled across this site when looking for a monogrammed towel wrap, and fell in love with lots of the stuff...like this pillow! Although not particularly preppy myself, I think I'll be sending one to a few friends who are proud Prepsters!

So, how many graduation invitations do you have tacked to your fridge right now? We have lots, but we’re not sweating it … all our favorite girl grads will get the Amy Mac Campus Bag – the perfect size to tote books to class, with pockets inside to hold pens and cell phones and a snap to keep everything cozy. There’s a fun new magazine called Blueprint on newsstands. It’s a Martha Stewart Living publication (shocking … it seems if it is glossy and on the newsstand, it has something to do with Martha) that aims to cover “everything we’re interested in – our lives, our homes, even our shoe wardrobes.” While there wasn’t any information that changed my life, there were some fun ideas and beautiful styling and photography. Check out the article on p. 140 about using fabric pieces and scarfs to create no-sew bags. Also, on the Blueprint website, (found at www.marthastewart.com) there is a pattern for a cute dress … looks pretty simple to make for those crafty sewers out there!
